Soshiro Hoshina (Twin Swords Jiangshi) is the game’s first Halloween character and, unexpectedly, a Slash Ice Defender. Instead of another attacker, he arrives as a support-oriented tank built around one of the most unusual mechanics in the game: redirecting damage away from his team.
His Combat Skill grants [Guard] to every ally except himself, reducing the damage they take, while his Passive makes him absorb part of that damage in their place. This spreads incoming hits across the whole team, so no single unit gets focused down, leading to far fewer resets in challenge stages, raids, and Total War.
He is not just a shield. Finesse stacks build up as he loses HP, boosting his Ultimate multiplier, and his Ultimate is a Max HP-scaling blast that heals the entire team, more for every Finesse stack, before consuming them. His free passives add real team value on top: Guard at the start of battle, a Normal Attack damage boost, and a stacking All-Attribute DMG Dealt buff whenever an ally spends SP.
His survival tools are what make the build work. Finesse grants him passive healing, and his Last Stand lets him survive a lethal hit with 1 HP and immediately heal back to full once per battle. Everything scales with HP, so he wants HP and gauge, and the more damage he soaks, the stronger his Ultimate becomes.
Ascensions add real utility: A1 advances his turn and gives SP after every Ultimate, A2 breaks elemental plates, A4 stacks an enemy DEF shred on top of the redirection, and A6 raises the Finesse cap and grants the team a large damage buff.
Overall, this Hoshina is a support-defender hybrid rather than a damage carry. He shines in content where enemies focus-fire or where survivability is the real gate, and he pairs naturally with Christmas Gen and other HP-scaling teams. So he is godd? Yes, very good, but is the first character in this new event,…so rather than spending all our summons on him, we should wait to see what the other characters bring. But if you need a Defender, he’s a solid option.
These are some recommended lineups. You can see a complete list for this character and more in the full Teams Guide page.
