Kaiju No. 8 The Game is approaching its 1st Anniversary, and the developers have just published the official maintenance notice for Version 2.0.0, a massive update packed with new features, systems, and content. The update is scheduled to go live after maintenance from July 30 to July 31, 2026.
This update is important for the game’s longevity. While it’s true that Kaiju N8 The Game is relatively popular in Japan, the player base for the international edition hasn’t grown; on the contrary, it has been shrinking rapidly. We’ve had too many characters in a row in recent banners; the game hasn’t seen any significant changes and suffers too much from character repetition. This new update could revive the game, considering that the anime’s final season is scheduled for the end of the year or early 2027—or, in the worst-case scenario, we might be thinking it could end sooner than we expect. It remains to be seen what they’ll tell us on the YouTube stream (in Japanese only) regarding the game’s anniversary.
That said, here’s everything coming in this game-changing update.
👤 New Anniversary Characters
Although they haven’t been officially announced, we do have a teaser for what appear to be 3 of the 4 units for this anniversary. We’ll have a new Kaiju 8, purple in color but with no further details regarding its features, and of course: a new Kikoru Shinomiya (this time wearing her mother Hikaru Shinomiya’s Suit) and a new Mina Ashiro. There’s supposed to be one more surprise character, but there’s no news on that yet.
🎉 1st Anniversary Celebration
The game’s 1st Anniversary is right around the corner! A dedicated 1st Anniversary Special Program has been teased — check it out on the official YouTube channel. More details are expected to drop on the official X account (@kj8_TheGame_EN), so stay tuned.
🆕 New Features in v2.0.0
1. Weapon Amplification
A brand-new progression system for weapons:
- Amplify weapons to enhance their basic stats using Refinement Crystals or Crystal Shards.
- Weapons of all rarities can be amplified up to 100 stages.
- 10 Crystal Shards raise the amplification stage by 1, while 1 Refinement Crystal raises it by 5.
- Obtain Crystal Shards from Training and Refinement Crystals by disassembling certain ★5 weapons.
- Crystal Shards will also be added to the exchange pools in the “Proof of Valor” and “Emblem of Defense” Shops.
- The Training stage “Unlock Potential Material” will be renamed to “Special Enhancement Material”, and Crystal Shards will be added to its drop table.
Note: Some weapon amplification stages may not yield basic stat increases.
2. Unit Enhancement Guide
A new guidance feature that helps players who feel unsure about character enhancement:
- Set a selected character as the target of the Unit Enhancement Guide.
- Marked recommended enhancements will appear on the Character screen.
- Recommended weapons will be highlighted on the Weapon Selection screen.
3. New Material: Apatite Petal
A new material aimed at helping players acquire duplicate ★5 characters:
- Obtain Apatite Petals when acquiring your 8th or subsequent copy of the same ★5 character.
- Collect them to exchange for select ★5 characters in the Shop.
- The count includes all acquisition methods (Gacha, Shop exchanges, mail distribution, and the first-time exchange from THE GAME Gacha).
- Characters obtained directly as compensation are not eligible.
4. Ultra-Fast Mode
An even faster battle speed option! In addition to the existing fast mode, a new ultra-fast mode will be added for even quicker-paced battles.
5. Shop Tab Layout Update
The Shop tabs will be rearranged for greater convenience and easier navigation.
Maintenance Schedule
The game will undergo maintenance during the following period:
- Start: July 30, 2026 — 23:00 UTC-05:00
- End: July 31, 2026 — 02:59 UTC-05:00
⚠️ Important: A download of approximately 3.3 GB (mobile) or 6.0 GB (PC) will be required. A Wi-Fi connection is strongly recommended. This data update includes data optimization from previous updates.

Starting August 6, limited-time packs that unlock under specific conditions for individual players will be added.
Item Exchange Updates
The following shops will see updates on July 31 at 03:00 UTC-05:00:
- “Encounter Stone” Shop — Unipart Resources, Unimaterials, and Stamina Jellies will be added.
- “Emblem of Defense” Shop — The Material Supply Box will be changed to “Material Supply Box II [★4 Attribute Material]”, which allows you to select 1 Attribute Material of your choice.
⚠️ Important Reminders
- Account linking is highly recommended before maintenance. You can restore and transfer your game data even if you accidentally delete the app. Check the guide here.
- If you are in the middle of a battle when maintenance begins, your progress after logging in again may be reset to the state before the battle.
- The maintenance date, time, and duration are subject to change.
Version 2.0.0 is shaping up to be the biggest update yet for Kaiju No. 8 The Game, introducing meaningful long-term progression systems alongside the 1st Anniversary festivities. The Weapon Amplification system alone adds up to 100 stages per weapon, and the Apatite Petal system finally gives veteran players a way to work toward specific ★5 characters.
