Netmarble just dropped Developer Notes #18, kicking off the road to the Seven Deadly Sins: Origin Half-Anniversary — and the headline is big: [SSR] Meliodas is 100% guaranteed for everyone. On top of that, the official Half-Anniversary Festival Special Livestream on August 21 will reveal the new character Ban, the Fox’s Sin of Greed.
Ban would be arriving at just the right time. SSR Derieri reception was a bit underwhelming compared to expectations for the game, and Ban is one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. During the livestream, we’ll get details about his class, the types of weapons he’ll use, and more. This release is important—the player base is clamoring for new content, and along with Ban, many updates to the game could be on the way. Here’s everything we know.

The celebration starts with the Half-Anniversary Festival Special Livestream, broadcast simultaneously on the Korean, Japanese and Global official YouTube channels:

💡 Ban is coming. The livestream announcement explicitly lists “New Character ‘Ban’ Skills & Gameplay” as the top highlight — the first official confirmation that Ban is the next unit. It’s reinforced by the guest lineup: the Japan broadcast includes Ryohei Kimura (Ban’s voice actor in the anime) alongside Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Meliodas’s VA). Expect the full reveal of his kit and banner during the stream on Aug 21.

The section everyone’s been waiting for. To celebrate the Half-Anniversary, every player gets Meliodas — no gacha luck required. Meliodas is described as the popular protagonist and a versatile hero active in Boss Challenge, so it’s a smart pick for players who missed the launch pick-up or skipped him.

[SSR] Meliodas is granted as a confirmed reward in the very first draw tutorial — a guaranteed free Meliodas, perfectly in line with welcoming new Star Guardians into Britannia.

Meliodas “will naturally be provided to all of you who have been playing with us so far as well” — in other words, all current players receive him for free too.
🎁 Bonus for maxed accounts
If you reach Meliodas Potential level 10, Netmarble will deliver 180 Star Trace Crystalloids.
⚠️ Important caveat: the reward is substituted with Star Trace Crystalloids only when Meliodas’s Potential is fully activated to level 10. If you already have Meliodas, activate any remaining Potential in advance so you don’t miss out on the substitute reward.
Distribution timing will be announced again in the update notice — expect it with the Version 2.0 patch after August 26 maintenance.
🎉 Half-Anniversary: a Two-Version Celebration (V2.0 → V2.1)
The Half-Anniversary runs across two versions, with events and content introduced sequentially:
- Version 2.0 — the goal is getting growth-phase players into Raids faster, plus new higher growth stages and content.
- Version 2.1 — the latter half, including the hero reruns from the survey vote, the ‘Ferzen Mines’ Raid and higher Boss Challenge difficulties.
🗒️ Developer Notes #18 — Other Key Highlights
Beyond Meliodas, PD Koo’s notes pack in a lot of QoL and endgame improvements:
1. New Raid [Hard] Difficulty + Reward Changes
- [Hard] becomes the new entry-level Raid standard for Star Fragments (it doesn’t drop Mystic Token or Raid equipment).
- Clears grant the same Star Fragments as [Abyss] with a lower recommended combat power than [Hell].
- [Hell] now also drops Quality 120 Raid equipment, so basic raid gear is obtainable without clearing [Abyss].
2. Transcendence Refinement — Engraved Equipment Growth
- A new system that lets already-refined Engraved Equipment grow beyond +5.
- 3 unlock processes per stage; each successful unlock opens an additional option and enables a higher refinement stage.
- Fully completing all unlocks grants +2 additional options and +1 Engraved Equipment passive.
- It’s a success/failure process, but failure consumes the material without extra penalty — you can retry freely (designed to minimize frustration).
3. New Content: ‘Maze’
- A lightweight, casual weekly content mode.
- Progress by using your roster with simple choices and hero placements based on random conditions.
- The deeper you go, the more rewards you get; hero entry counts are maximized via Stage 4 Potential growth.
- Owners of more heroes go deeper (veteran-friendly), with catch-up elements for newer players.
- Features a separate exchange shop offering Transcendence Refinement materials and some Potential Points (normally draw-only).
4. Boss Challenge [Transcendence] Difficulty
- New top difficulty, designed mainly for Time Attack (not farming).
- Becomes the standard Time Attack ranking difficulty after V2.0, opening at set intervals aligned with ranking seasons.
- Rewards identical to [Abyss]; Transcendence Refinement materials drop here and are also added to [Abyss].
5. Survey Vote — First Official Hero Rerun (you choose!)
- A survey vote for 6 heroes will be held on the official website; the top-voted heroes become the first rerun units.
- Special voting rules themed to V2.0 apply.
- The first Rerun pick-up launches in Version 2.1 — so make sure you vote for the hero you want back!
