Novice Recruitment Starter pool SSR guaranteed within 30 pulls Your very first SSR. Clear it before spending anywhere else.
Standard Character Permanent Random SSR every 60 · select one SSR at 180 · second selector at 300 Long-term accounts. Bank pulls until a selector is in reach.
Standard Ability Permanent SSR ability every 60 · selector at 150 · 5-slot wishlist Only after you own the character whose kit you want to complete.
Featured / Limited Rotating Featured SSR guaranteed within 60 pulls A specific unit you actually want to main.
Short version: clear the Novice banner, then pull Featured banners for a specific unit, and bank Standard Character pulls until you can reach the 180 selector. Treat the Ability banner as an endgame sink, not a starting point.

The Three Banner Shapes

Featured: a hard cap for one unit

A Featured banner is the only place where a specific SSR has a predictable ceiling: 60 pulls. If the featured unit is someone you will actually play, saving for that guarantee is the most efficient use of Astrogems in the game.

Standard Character: plan for the selector

The permanent character pool guarantees a random SSR every 60 pulls. That is useful, but it does not let you choose. The real value sits at 180 accumulated pulls, where you pick one SSR from the pool yourself, and again at 300 for a second pick. Pulling in small batches hoping for luck resets nothing — but it also gets you no closer to a selector than banking the same pulls would.

Standard Ability: complete a kit you already own

Ability shards unlock and level a character's signature moves. The pool has the same 60-pull SSR guarantee, a five-slot wishlist that biases drops toward your picks, and a selector at 150 pulls. It is a strong pool — for an account that already has the unit in question.

Selector Pool: The Ten Permanent SSRs

The 180 and 300 Standard Character selectors, and the 150 Standard Ability selector, draw from the same fixed list:

Ermes Costello

First duplicate priority: Giorno. His early Star Rank unlocks the passive that turns him from a good healer into a top-tier support. After that, a first duplicate on Caesar or Koichi is defensible; beyond those three, pick the unit that fills the role your roster is missing rather than chasing a name.

Ability priority: the first Ability stage (60 shards, one copy of the unit owned) unlocks a completely separate second Ultimate for several characters. It is a different ability, not a bigger number on the first one.

CharacterSecond UltimateWhat it changes
Jotaro Kujo Time Stop The best-known second Ultimate in the game and the reason Jotaro is the single-target benchmark.
Giorno Giovanna Consciousness Rampage Turns a pure healer into a real single-target threat with a long incapacitate.
Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli Bubble Lenses Swaps his area profile for a focused single-target nuke.
Ermes Costello Hypersonic Harpoon A defensive tool: shields the lowest-HP ally and stuns nearby enemies.
Bruno Bucciarati Zipper Space Banishes a target for several seconds; becomes an execute against the last enemy.
Diavolo Finished Now Flat high damage that gains a large bonus against isolated targets.

Star Ranks and Duplicate Value

Every duplicate is worth 60 Character Shards and 60 Stand Shards. Star Rank runs from ★1 to ★6 and costs the same for every character, regardless of rarity:

Star RankShards for this stepWhat you get
★1 0 Free on pull — Basic Attack + Ultimate
★2 60 Reaches 60 Shards with the first duplicate
★3 90 150 Shards cumulative
★4 120 270 Shards cumulative
★5 150 420 Shards cumulative
★6 180 600 Shards total (10 duplicates) · +10% HP, ATK and DEF
600 Shards from ★1 to ★6 equals ten duplicates. That is why "just pull one more copy" is rarely a plan. Decide early which two or three units deserve that investment and let the rest of the roster stay at ★1 or ★2.

Best F2P Spending Order

  1. Novice banner first. The 30-pull SSR is the cheapest guaranteed unit you will ever get.
  2. Featured banner if a unit you actually want is on it. Sixty pulls is a hard cap; treat it as the only guaranteed return on Astrogems.
  3. Standard Character in selector-sized chunks. Bank until 180, pick the unit your roster lacks, then start banking toward 300 if you are still playing daily.
  4. Standard Ability last. Only after the unit is owned and you are ready to push toward the 150 selector.
  5. Never split pulls across pools "just to see what happens". Every pull outside a guarantee is a lottery ticket; the guarantees are the actual product.

Should You Reroll?

For the vast majority of players, no. Guest accounts exist, so you can test a fresh session without burning an email, but the honest question is not "did I land an SSR?". It is "is this an account I would keep pushing?".

A single copy of an SSR is the start of its investment. Duplicates and Stand Shards take real time no matter which account you are on, and the permanent selectors let a first account steer toward the unit it wants. Rerolling only makes sense if you are chasing a limited unit and are comfortable replaying the opening several times.
