Poseidon
Profile Update

Poseidon, the God of the Sea, is one of the main gods in the Saint Seiya franchise and one of the first SS-tier characters in Saint Seiya Awakening. Here we have a character who has it all—he can function as a DPS, a control unit, a debuffer, and even a support.

Poseidon caused quite a stir when he was released; he’s one of the most complicated units to use in terms of skill selection—memorizing what each skill does and when to use it was a challenge. Isn’t that right? The thing is, despite a couple of reworks, Poseidon hasn’t managed to stay relevant in the meta. It’s not that he lacks potential—he has powerful skills—but using his mechanics complicates things a bit.

Poseidon’s greatest strength comes from his Awakened Cloth, which allows him to cast his AoE attack and automatically trigger all previous attacks: In other words, we can start by casting Split Lightning, then Ice Crystal, and then Thunder Cloud. When we cast Ocean’s Determination, all those attacks we cast previously will be triggered automatically. This is excellent and sounds very powerful on paper. Even more so considering that we can cast two attacks in a row on even rounds. However… in the game, it doesn’t quite work that way.

To start with: the God of the Sea’s damage multipliers aren’t that high, nor is his support capability, but his main problem is that he requires active moves—which wouldn’t be so bad—but this game is full of characters who do all that automatically. His counterpart, Poseidon Seraphina, does the same thing, only better, automatically, and with almost no energy consumption.

That’s the problem with Poseidon: he does a lot, but there are units that do it better, and he has to take a turn to do all that in a world of characters that do things automatically. On top of that, he has high energy consumption.

Is he worth using? Only if you have a low-level account or are just starting out in the game might you consider playing with Poseidon for PvE. In PvP, it requires a lot of investment, frequent bans, perfect timing and the right lineup, and the enemy must not use units that counter him. He’s very situational, and situational SS units aren’t a good investment because they’re so expensive. On the plus side, Poseidon is probably the SS unit that drops most often in the gacha.

+ Pros

  • A fun character to play thanks to his variety of skills.
  • He can deal a lot of damage if built as a DPS.
  • He can take on the role of control, DPS, or support.

Cons

  • He needs many turns to function properly.
  • He requires a lot of energy in the early rounds.
  • He isn't the best at any of the roles mentioned.
  • His control is Frost-based, but of the simplest kind.

Skill 4

Ocean's Determination - Awakened

Lv1Lv2Lv3Lv4Lv5

Each power stacks up to 3 times. Shield of Life gains additional HP equal to (Power spent * 5%). 30% Resistances. Poseidon possesses three powers: Sea Tide, Ice Crystal and Thunder Cloud. By combining his powers into different variations, he can unleash the skill [Ocean's Determination], whose effect differs depending on the combination. When he uses skills (including basic attacks), he gains a Shield of Life. While active, he gains 30% C.DMG Res and P.DMG Res. After casting [Realm of Flowing Water], he will use skills already used during this battle. After using a skill, Poseidon absorbs the Power required for that skill and gains the corresponding attribute bonus. Each Power stacks up to 3 times, and the order these Powers are in does not have an impact on the effects. The initial value of [Shield of Life] is 5% of Poseidon’s initial HP, and can be increased according to the initial energy consumption of the released skills; the [Shield of Life] can be superimposed, and the maximum value can't exceed 70% of Poseidon’s HP (The shield is permanent) The additional released skills that are triggered by [Realm of Flowing Water] do not consume energy, same skills will not be triggered repeatedly, the release sequence and targets are random, and the [Realm of Flowing Water] will not be triggered again
